NOLA to Conroe TX : Lake Charles LA

The first stop out of NOLA was the Bayou Distillery.  A locally owned, locally sourced, distiller of rum!

While we were there, they recommended a couple of other stops in Lake Charles.

Honey B Ham was on our list from the beginning.  We bought ham and broccoli cheese casserole for Monday's party.

We also bought Boudin Balls - YUMM!!
Boudin Balls
The first recommendation from the kind folks at Bayou Distillery was Famous Foods, ,1475 Gerstner Memorial Dr, Lake Charles, LA 70601.  We were told to get the chocolate covered cracklin.  The did not have it :(  more was coming in 45 minutes.  If you know us, or have ever been on a road trip of your own, you know we did not wait.  But we bought a couple types of Boudin.

The other great suggestion was J T's Seafood at 2908 Lake St, Lake Charles, LA 70601.

NOLA : Harrah's Casino

NOLA - Café Adelaide

After we left the dogs at the hotel, we went to happy hour at Café Adelaide

Cornfried Catfish Taco

Shrimp Corn Dog

NOLA - Southern Food and Beverage Museum

This is an interesting museum.  It does not have the luxury of the space  I associate with other museums and galleries.   The offer classes and lectures.  Next visit to NOLA we hope to attend one of these.

There is the Popeye's Chicken and Al Copeland Area:
There is the Piggly Wiggly corner

There are newspaper clippings of interest

A fancy Waffle Iron

This is the Absinthe Bar

This is indicative of the rest of the museum:  closely arranged tableau of loosely associated items.  Because the items are all so familiar, for the most part, this might be confused with a yard sale or an antique store.

Next:  to the hotel!

Prattville AL to NOLA and Lunch at Toup's South

This morning we actually had breakfast at the hotel.  We are planning lunch in NOLA.

The Cracking Machine - The pecans are not fully shelled, they are just cracked.  This means you slow down while eating them, because you have to work for them!

When we arrived in NOLA. we went straight to lunch at Toups South, 1504 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.

We had a great meal!  The server was wonderful and shepherded us through the menu and dining process.
